International tax advice in Madrid

Our international tax advisers in Madrid review situations involving Spanish obligations and connections with other countries. A move, foreign income or overseas assets may call for advice on tax residence, the Beckham Law, non-resident tax, double taxation or Form 720. We provide remote support throughout Spain and to people living abroad who have Spanish tax matters.

A move, an informed decision

Impatriates and the Beckham Law

Moving does not automatically grant access to a special regime. We review your circumstances, eligibility and the comparison with ordinary taxation before defining the election and subsequent obligations.

Tax advice for non-residents

A home, rental income or a sale in Spain can raise tax questions even if you live abroad. This service reviews the income, documents and obligations relevant to your circumstances.

Double taxation and overseas income

When income is connected with two countries, its nature, your residence and tax paid need assessment. We review the treaty and possible relief within the agreed scope.

Overseas assets and Form 720

Overseas accounts, investments and property require a review of ownership, valuations and reporting obligations. We distinguish Form 720 from any taxes on the income they generate.

How we provide international tax advice in Madrid

Our international tax advice in Madrid starts with the countries involved, relevant dates and background to your case. We connect residence, income and assets to identify the services required and whether a treaty or special regime needs reviewing. We then agree the scope and documents needed, without automatically including obligations in the other country.

An international situation cannot be resolved solely by looking at the country where income is received or a home is owned. We need to connect dates, residence, income sources and assets. We first define the Spanish issue and then identify whether another professional should review obligations in another country. The scope is agreed before extending the work.

  1. Initial situation: countries involved, move or travel dates and relevant background.
  2. Combined assessment: tax residence, income, assets and any relevant treaty or special regime.
  3. Scope of work: the issues to review, documents needed and next steps.

The international tax team at MRC Consultores

We bring our expertise in international tax and double taxation. If the case also involves other areas of the firm, we identify the matters to coordinate within the agreed scope.

What we need for an initial consultation

Documents, laptop and a model plane for planning a move

Your first enquiry can be brief: countries involved, dates of moves or transactions and the issue you need to resolve. Relevant employment, tax or asset documentation is specified afterwards. Do not send identity documents, banking details or tax returns through the initial form.

Distinguish events that have already happened from those still being planned. Also mention any returns or procedures completed and whether another adviser is involved abroad. This helps define the Spanish work without assuming that obligations in another jurisdiction, requiring separate assessment, are covered.

Before we begin

Frequently asked questions about our international tax services

How to start your enquiry, which information we need and how we agree the scope. Specific tax questions are covered on each service page.

What situations do your international tax services cover?

Our services cover tax residence, the impatriate regime, non-resident obligations, income and double taxation, and overseas assets and Form 720. An initial consultation identifies the areas relevant to your case without assuming that you need all of them.

Which service should I choose if my situation involves several areas?

You can start here by explaining the countries involved, relevant dates and the decision you need to review. We then establish whether the work concerns residence, income, a special regime, reporting obligations or several connected issues.

Can I consult you before moving or carrying out a transaction?

Yes. We review both planned situations and events that have already occurred. Tell us what is still being considered and which decisions have been made, as changes in circumstances may require us to revisit the assessment.

Is your international tax advice in Madrid available throughout Spain?

Yes. Our office is in Madrid, but we provide remote advice on Spanish tax obligations to clients throughout Spain. We also advise people living abroad whose circumstances are connected with Spain. You do not need to travel to our office for the consultation; advice on another country’s legislation is not automatically included.

Does the service include tax obligations in the other country?

Not automatically. The engagement defines the Spanish work and identifies when a review in the other country is needed. Advice or representation before a foreign tax authority is not included unless expressly agreed.

What information do you need to assess the work and its fees?

A brief description, the countries involved, relevant dates and the question you need to resolve. We then establish the documents required and scope of work. Please do not send sensitive identity, banking or tax documents through the initial contact form.
